There are hundreds of trees that will not survive on our property after the Camp Fire in November of 2018. I was able to connect with a logger who was willing to purchase all of our pine trees. He took trees that the utility company (PG&E) had already dropped near the power lines, as well as dropped about 35 more and removed them from the property. I was able to follow the crew around a little ...

Looks pretty good. We did a very similar job on out 70s ranch-house ceiling -- but we wanted a brighter, solid-white look. Here's what I had done by a paineter-friend: 1. Applied Zinner oil-based primer -- the type tht accepts a latex top-coat. 2. Filled ALL the cracks between the tongues and grooves with DAP Flex caulk -- siliconized Acrilic caulk. Also filled various holes and defebcts in the wood. 3. Applied first coat of Sherrwin-Williams Infinity Satin white latex paint. Lowe's best. Not the S-W very besy -- but great for a ceiling. 4. Repeated step 3 with another coat of Infinity. All paint was applied with small roller cut down to 6 inches or so -- width of the boards. Left brown beams as is for contrast. 5. Later painted the walls to paint over the Infinity paint that got on the walls. Looks great! The result looks very much like this video EXCEPT the white wood is a BRIGHT SOLID SATIN that is the look we wanted.

Hey my Dear Painter, DIY person, your RUclips video on the White Washed pine ceiling was exactly what I was searching for because you did not sand down the old varnish or finish with 150 grit sand paper as the Google instructions suggested. All the dust from the wood / would be kind of prohibitive, for most anyone. The other thing, you are pretty excellent with cutting in the edges. For me I goof sometimes, so painters tape, even tho it is a whole extra step, it is just worth the time. I hope you get my comment because it is a real complement on all that work. My Congratulations, your finished job is bold and beautiful! 😊

Unsolicited Advice: Screws snap and sheer off, while nails bend. Something to consider if you live in earthquake country. It will sheer off and your load bearing beam is no longer load bearing ( for that reason in some areas using screws is a code violation )

I’m a roofer and you needed to put new flashings in before you built it back up again which of course you would have had to take out some shingles and that way you wouldn’t have needed to put that ugly tar in there therefore the chimney stack would have looked exactly correct like it did when it was first install .😊👍

I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.

Have you had any stain bleed though since you whitewashed over a previously stained ceiling? I'm thinking about having someone do this to my ceiling instead of sanding first, so wanted to see if it's worth doing it over the stain or if I should have it sanded first (obviously more $$$)?

Get yourself a gallon of Evaporust to soak the metal tools and parts in. If you do not remove the rust, it will stain the wood you work on. The EVRust is biodegradable, and not harmful to humans and you can reuse it over and over. Love the box too. I would restore the metal and strip down the chest to its original condition if it was mine. But i can see the appeal of leaving it as is. Removing oil from would is near impossible, but i would still research it. Something new may have been developed to remove it. Best of luck.

Thanks for the video. Was dreading doing mine and put it off for quite a while. You made it clear and simple. For anyone wondering about the cost. My chimney stack is 3 feet by 2 1/2 feet. The angle of my roof made the short side 5' 9" and the tall side 7'. Four sheets of Hardie board, five boards of Hardie trim (3/4" x 5 1/2" x 12'), large container of screws, gallon of paint, and 10 tubes of caulk. Total cost was just under $500. My wife had gotten estimates from $1000 to $1500. It took 2 days to complete but you can see how much money you saved me. Thanks again.

Great job man. When putting mortar onto a cementitious surface like concrete, wet the substrate first. Otherwise, that surface will suck the moisture from your mortar before it has a chance to dig in and develop the right bond. Also, key the mortar into that surface first........spread it with your flat side of your trowel tight against the surface so you push the mortar into all the pores.
